Devon Conway is awaiting the birth of his first child, therefore he will miss this week’s third and final Test match against England.
As he awaits the birth of his first child, New Zealand opener Devon Conway will not play in this week’s third and final Test match against England.
Conway will be staying in Wellington with his family, so the Black Caps, who lost the second Test by 323 runs, will not have him. Mark Chapman of the Auckland Aces has been called up to take his position.
“Family comes first in this environment, and we’re all really excited for Dev and his wife Kim to welcome their first child,” said Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, who fully supported Conway’s choice.
After playing for New Zealand in the Test series against India, Chapman, who just struck an outstanding 276 in the Plunket Shield, rejoins the team.
Will Young, who scored 244 runs at an average of 48.40 on last month’s tour of India and was named player of the series, is now available due to Conway’s absence. Young is now anticipated to enter the starting lineup after missing the first two Test matches against England following Kane Williamson’s return.
Williamson has been New Zealand’s best scorer in the series, with 195 runs at an average of 48.75 while spearheading their batting attempts. Conway and the rest of the batting lineup, though, have had trouble. Conway’s five-ball duck in the second Test caused his series average to fall to 5.25.
Tom Latham, the captain of the Black Caps, made some suggestions on possible changes for Friday’s start of the third Test in Hamilton. Latham stated, “We’ll evaluate the conditions at Seddon Park and decide on the best XI,” following the Basin Reserve defeat.
Given that the pitch at the venue is usually flat, left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner might be included. Even though he has struggled with the ball in this series, taking four wickets at an average of 61.50, Tim Southee, who has declared his retirement from Test cricket after this series, is anticipated to play in his final match at his home ground.
On Wednesday, the Black Caps will get back together to get ready for the last Test match at Seddon Park.
