Star players who aren’t sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are being invited to play in the PSL by the PCB.
According to official sources, the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to play from April 8 to May 19. To make his presence known and guarantee efficient planning, Salman Naseer, the recently appointed PCB CEO, has started a series of virtual meetings. The date of the player draft is set for January 11.
Star players who aren’t sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are being invited to play in the PSL by the PCB. The league’s compensation structure, which caps player earnings at $200,000, continues to raise issues, though. Some teams and the PCB are concerned that this cap may discourage well-known foreign players from playing in the league.
Franchises had previously opposed direct contracts, but the PCB is now thinking about letting teams deal directly with players’ representatives. Several agencies have already contacted franchises to inquire about possible transactions, according to sources. Some organizations, on the other hand, are against circumventing the draft and maintain that all significant players must participate.
Direct negotiations could result in disputes between franchises if they continue. For example, a player is more likely to accept a bid of $500,000 from one team than $400,000 from another. Players drafted under the $200,000 cap, including Pakistani stars, may get unhappy as a result.
PSL authorities had high hopes of landing international players like Jonny Bairstow, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and David Warner. After resigning for academic reasons, Shoaib Khalid, the PCB’s Manager of Player Acquisition, was persuaded to take a part-time position. According to reports, Khalid has reached out to Warner and other elite players to see how interested they are in the league.
In order to keep the system equitable for all players and draw in top talent, the PCB and franchises must strike a careful balance. In the upcoming weeks, further information regarding league preparations and the hiring of foreign players is expected to be available in the coming days.
