During the T20 World Cup 2024, Amir made his final appearance for his country against Ireland. He had an economical spell, picking up two wickets for just eleven runs in his four overs.
In an emotional statement on his official X (previously Twitter) account, Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket, marking yet another decision to leave the sport.
His choice was made just one day after Imad Wasim, another cricket player from Pakistan, announced his retirement from international play.
In his message, Amir wrote, “After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights.”
He further added, “Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends, and, above all, my fans for their continuous love and support.”
Amir has now retired from international cricket for the second time. After disagreements with the team management, he took his first retirement in 2020 at the age of 28. He did, however, return earlier this year to take part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 alongside Imad Wasim.
