It is anticipated that the 17th Asia Cup will be contested in T20 format. The Asian Cricket Council is eager to choose a neutral venue for the continental event, thus the UAE will host it.
The 17th edition of the continental tournament is scheduled to take place at a neutral venue, with sources saying that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the front-runner to host the event. The Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be played in September in the Twenty20 format and will provide an important opportunity for Asian teams to hone their skills in preparation for the T20 World Cup next year.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is anticipated to choose the United Arab Emirates as the neutral venue for the Asia Cup, despite India being the tournament’s official host. This decision comes after an agreement between India and Pakistan mediated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that guarantees neutral venues for matches between the two countries in important ICC competitions.
To avoid last-minute ambiguities and delays in tournament scheduling, the ACC clearly seeks to conform to the ICC’s system.
For the 2023 Asia Cup, which was played in a one-day international format, India declined to go to Pakistan. India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka under a hybrid concept that Pakistan was compelled to accept. Actually, just four of the thirteen matches in the continental event were held in Pakistan.
Following India’s refusal to visit Pakistan earlier this year, the ICC accepted a hybrid Champions Trophy concept following a protracted standoff. At first, the Pakistan Cricket Board insisted on not holding a portion of the competition at a neutral venue. Nonetheless, the hybrid concept was accepted by the PCB, the BCCI, and the ICC. Additionally, the ICC stated that until 2028, Pakistan would not visit India for significant tournaments that India hosts.
“India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue,” the International Cricket Council stated.
For the 2025 ODI Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will not be visiting India.
India defeated Sri Lanka in the Colombo final to win the 2023 Asia Cup. India has won the tournament eight times, making them the most successful team. While Pakistan has won the Asia Cup twice, with their most recent victory occurring in 2012, Sri Lanka has won it up to six times.
