LAHORE: In an exciting final game held at the Wapda Sports Complex on Monday, defending champions Wapda defeated a formidable Army team 38-33 to win the National Women’s Basketball Championship title.
Wapda dominated the first half and led by a clear 12-point margin at the interval (27-15). Despite their best efforts, the Pakistan Army was unable to overtake Wapda’s lead in the second half.
With 12 and 10 points, respectively, Hijab Fatima and Kainat Zafar, two important Wapda players, were vital in the team’s ability to hold onto the championship title.
With nine points, Fajar Fatima led the Army in scoring, followed by Ayesha Dilashad and Kashifa Noreen, each with eight points.
With a commanding 48-23 victory, Lahore defeated Karachi in the third-place game.
The score was 33-12 at the half, with Lahore leading by 21 points. Lahore’s top scorers, Khadija Mushtaq and Aimen Mehmood, each scored 13 points.
The Pakistan Basketball Federation organized the five-day tournament, which included eight teams: Wapda, Army, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Hazara, and Bahawalpur Division.
