On the first day of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, the milestone was achieved.
Babar Azam, an exceptional batsman of Pakistan, has reached the 4,000-run mark in Test cricket. Babar achieved the milestone during his innings in the first game of the two-match series at the Centurion on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa.
In the game’s longest format, Babar needed just three runs to hit the 4000-run milestone, and he did so in spectacular fashion, reaching his 4000th Test run with a boundary off Corbin Bosch. With little fanfare, the right-handed hitter marked his accomplishment by flicking a low full delivery past square leg to the boundary.
Babar’s accomplishment places him on the elite list of cricketers who have amassed 4,000 runs in Test matches, 5,000 in One-Day Internationals, and 2000 in Twenty20 Internationals. He is just the third player to score 4000 runs in all three formats of the game alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Earlier in the day, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first, looking to make the most of the conditions.
