In Test cricket, South African pacer Corbin Bosch created history by taking a wicket on his very first ball. The right-arm fast bowler accomplished this unique milestone, making him the fifth South African player to do so.
Bosch achieved this feat at Supersport Park in Centurion during the opening Test of the current two-match series against Pakistan. After the drinks break, he was brought into the attack and immediately made an impression.
Bosch delivered a full ball that went over Shan Masood of Pakistan on the first delivery. Perhaps losing focus, Masood edged the ball to gully with a weak drive away from his body, where Marco Jansen made an incredible catch. Bosch had left his mark after Masood was dismissed for 17 runs off 58 balls.
With this wicket, Bosch joined Shamar Joseph and Tshepo Moreki as the third pacer in 2024 to capture a wicket on their first delivery in their Test career. Three bowlers have accomplished this milestone in the same year for the first time in Test history.
Tshepo Moreki got Devon Conway out in February, and Shamar Joseph got rid of Steven Smith on his first ball in January. As a result of his accomplishment, Bosch is now the 25th bowler in Test history to claim a wicket on the very first ball.
In addition, Bosch joined Bert Vogler, Dane Piedt, Hardus Viljoen, and Tshepo Moreki as the fifth bowler from South Africa to accomplish this feat.
