Since Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 15-player squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, debate on the selection on Faheem Ashraf has started on social media.
Faheem Ashraf played his last ODI match against bitter rival India at the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023.
The selection of Faheem Ashraf for Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has generated a great deal of discussion on social media, with many supporters raising concerns about his recent performance and the selection criteria.
Four players have rejoined the national ODI team, including Faheem, whose last ODI performance was against bitter rivals India at the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023. His inclusion, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was predicated on his consistent domestic performance since his last appearance in the ODI squad.
“Faheem has been one of the most reliable domestic performers across all formats since his 34th and last ODI appearance in September 2023,” said a PCB spokesperson.
Fans have criticized the choice despite the explanation, with many calling Faheem Ashraf’s selection “unfortunate” and “questionable.” Frustrated, some supporters have pointed out that Faheem’s presence seems unwarranted because he has been inefficient and out of form.
However, Asad Shafiq, Pakistan’s national selector, defended Faheem’s selection by highlighting his previous experience and his role as a fast-bowling all-rounder.
“Faheem Ashraf’s experience and presence give us the option of a fast-bowling all-rounder,” Shafiq said in a statement issued by the PCB.
