Following England’s resounding series victory over New Zealand, Joe Root hailed his teammate Harry Brook, referring to him as “far and away the best player in the world”. England’s first series win in New Zealand since 2008 was made possible by Brook’s superb performance in the second Test at the Basin Reserve.
In just three days, England won the series 2-0 with a 323-run triumph that featured hundreds from both Root and Brook. Brook won Player of the Match for his outstanding 123 in the first innings under difficult circumstances. Root, who scored 106 runs in the second innings, gave Brook credit for his capacity to control bowlers and withstand pressure.
“Brooky is by far and away the best player in the world at the moment,” Root stated. He is capable of applying pressure, absorbing it, and scoring runs in any manner imaginable. “It’s really difficult to bowl to him,” he continued.
Root, the current No. 1 in the ICC Test rankings, was complimented by Brook, who recently rose to No. 2 following his outstanding 171 in the first Test. “He’s too good for me to catch him, isn’t he? Brook stated, “He’s undoubtedly among the best players, if not the best, to have ever played the game.”
Brook has already established himself as one of cricket’s most promising players with an average of 61.62 after just 23 Test matches. “I’ve only played 23 games, so those stats could soon come down,” he says, maintaining his groundedness. He said, “I’m just focused on getting better and honing my craft.”
Joe Root called the news that he was on the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award “humbling.” Prior to the start of the third and final Test on Saturday, the England team will now reassemble in Hamilton.
