It was brought up at a review meeting of the Australia tour held in Mumbai by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Following a string of internal disputes, Indian media reported that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had accused young player Sarfaraz Khan of leaking private information from the Indian dressing room during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After a string of internal leaks made headlines, Khan—who did not play in any of the Test matches in the series—found himself at the heart of the accusations. Khan had a strong showing in the previous home series against New Zealand.

According to a News24 Sports report, the charge was brought up at a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) review meeting of the Australia tour in Mumbai.

According to reports, Gambhir accused Khan of revealing information about a furious altercation between the players and the coaching staff following India’s humiliating loss in the fourth Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

According to reports, the leaked material contained Gambhir’s detailed rebuke, in which he purportedly voiced his dissatisfaction about the team’s lack of discipline and disregard for game preparations.

Despite his outstanding 150-run effort in the last series, Khan was left out of the playing XI for this one, which has fueled rumors about his relationship with the coaching staff.

According to sources, Gambhir’s charges could have a long-term effect on the young player’s future.

Ahead of the Sydney Test, Gambhir addressed the controversy and emphasized the value of team confidentiality.

“Coaches and players should only discuss issues in the dressing room. He stated at a press conference prior to the game that “stern words were exchanged, but those were just reports, not the truth.”

Gambhir continued by highlighting the importance of honesty in the team and emphasizing that a player’s position in the squad should only be decided by their performance.

“The team’s first ideology is what counts; there is only one trend and one conversation. You must fulfill the role that the team requires of you. Gambhir reaffirmed his message of putting the team first by saying, “You can still play your natural game in a team sport, but if the team needs you to play a certain way, you must do so.”

After the Sydney Test, Gambhir reportedly yelled at the team, telling the players, “Bahut ho gaya” (“Enough is enough”). The Indian Express stated that Gambhir was upset that the batters had not changed their style of play to suit the circumstances.

According to reports, certain players persisted in playing their natural game rather than according to the pre-planned methods, which Gambhir felt hurt the team’s performance.
