According to reports, the BCCI has granted all of Gautam Gambhir’s requests, including those for coaching personnel and pitches.
In its examination of the Indian men’s cricket team’s dismal performance against New Zealand at home, the BCCI is allegedly going to question Gautam Gambhir about the decision made since he took over as head coach. Despite having home advantage and tradition in their favor, India was humiliated by the foreigners in a historic 0–3 rout.
The team’s request for rank turners is also being questioned, according to a story at The Times of India, even though they changed their minds after defeating England 4-1 in a five-match Test series on athletic fields earlier this year. After losing the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru, when they were taken aback by the conditions that favored seam and swing bowling, the squad reportedly requested surfaces that would aid spinners.
A few board members were taken aback by the decision to return to rank turners. According to a source cited by TOI, Gautam Gambhir’s new support personnel would be questioned about their plans for the team’s future.
According to reports, the BCCI has complied with Gambhir’s “every demand,” including those of the support staff, which included the hiring of Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, and Ryan ten Doeschate
The former India opener also went to the Australia tour selection meeting, which has turned into a point of dispute.
The insider claimed that the BCCI had so far acceded to all of Gambhir’s demands. “Despite BCCI’s objective of promoting coaches they have developed through NCA’s program, he has been assigned a support staff of his choosing. Additionally, he is permitted to attend the selection meeting for the Australia tour team. It could be necessary for the board to review its choices and request a roadmap from Gambhir.
Gambhir, head selector Ajit Agarkar, and skipper Rohit Sharma are anticipated to attend the review meeting.
Although the BCCI forbids coaches from participating in such talks, news agency PTI has previously reported that Gambhir was permitted to join the selection meeting because of the importance of the Australia tour.
“Gautam Gambhir was granted access that Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri, his predecessors, were not granted. Although coaches are not permitted to attend selection committee meetings according to the BCCI’s rule book, an exemption was made for the Australia tour selection meeting. Given the importance of the tour, the head coach was permitted to go,” a source told PTI.
