To open the door for India to play in the Champions Trophy 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is making every effort to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to host the competition using a hybrid model.

The PCB is determined about holding the entire event in Pakistan, despite the ICC’s several attempts to persuade them otherwise. Although the Champions Trophy’s suggested schedule was made public a few months ago, the final schedule has not yet been made public.

A few days ago, the ICC was scheduled to announce the final schedule at an event in Lahore; however, due to India’s hesitancy to play in Pakistan, the event was canceled. There are only a few days left, and the ICC is under growing pressure to clarify the location.

In order to host the Champions Trophy in 2025 using a hybrid model, ICC gives PCB financial incentives.

A report claims that the ICC is attempting to convince the PCB to accept a hybrid hosting strategy for the Champions Trophy in exchange for financial incentives. This matter is expected to be settled at the ICC’s executive board meeting on Tuesday, November 26.

According to an insider cited by PTI, “the PCB is now being offered additional financial incentives to end the deadlock, as they are unwilling to budge on hosting the event under a hybrid model.”

He went on to say, “There’s a good chance that by tomorrow (Tuesday), following a virtual discussion by board representatives, a clear picture will emerge regarding the format under which the Champions Trophy would eventually be held early next year.”

The insider added, though, that the PCB is unwilling to shift the Champions Trophy outside of Pakistan and is insistent about holding the entire competition there. Given that the other six participating nations have affirmed their intention to participate, the Pakistan Cricket Board is certain that it will host the entire tournament.

He stated that the PCB has so far opposed all such attempts, claiming that it is their problem if India is unwilling to play in Pakistan because the other six participating countries have no trouble doing so.

PCB is determined that Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy.

Even if it permits the tournament to proceed using a hybrid model, the PCB still wants to host the match against India and the final in Lahore, according to another individual with knowledge of the matter. The BCCI, on the other hand, disagrees and favors holding India’s matches in Dubai.

Another insider stated, “The PCB is also insisting that the Pakistan and India group (stage) match and the final should be held in Lahore, even if it agrees to a hybrid model.”

“Clearly, this is unacceptable to the Indian cricket board, which is demanding that all of India’s matches—including the match against Pakistan, the semifinal, and the final, if they qualify—be held in Dubai,” he continued.

A major issue for ICC

A major issue for ICCThe ICC now has a major problem when it comes to staging its main event, which is set for February or March of next year. Since 2008, India has refrained from visiting Pakistan due to tense political ties and internal security concerns.

Pakistan was also supposed to host the 2023 Asia Cup. However, India declined to visit their neighbor, therefore a hybrid model was employed to hold the competition. All of India’s games, including the final, were played in Sri Lanka.
