According to the cricket board, Aqib will also remain as a senior member of the men’s national selection committee.

LAHORE: Former international fast bowler Aqib Javed was named by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday as the temporary head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team till the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

According to a statement from the board, Aqib will continue to work as a senior member of the men’s National Selection Committee during this time and will be given more duties after the champions trophy.

A permanent white-ball head coach will be hired by the PCB in the meantime, with the goal of having the position filled before the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy, which is set for February 19–March 9.

Gary Kirsten has resigned, leaving the white-ball coaching position open. The team’s recent tour of Australia was guided by red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, who will now return for the forthcoming two-Test series in South Africa.

The Pakistan men’s side is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Zimbabwe (November 24 – December 5) and as many white-ball matches in South Africa (December 10-22 ).

Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa for an ODI triangular series from February 8–14 in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
