James Vince has made the decision to play in the PSL season 10 instead of the County Championship this year.
According to a report released on Wednesday, James Vince, the top-order batsman for England, has chosen to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 instead of the County Championship this year.
The 33-year-old took this action in reaction to the new No-Objection Certificate (NOC) policy implemented by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The Indian Premier League (IPL) is an exception to the rule, which prohibits players from participating in foreign competitions such as the PSL, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Major League Cricket (MLC) during the English summer.
Although he will still captain Hampshire’s T20 team, Vince, who was kept by Karachi Kings in the diamond category for PSL 10, stepped down as captain after nine years. He will not be competing in the County Championship this year.
For sixteen years, Hampshire has been both my home and club. In T20 cricket, I want to give it my all and contribute to our continued success. I also have to think about what’s best for my family at this point in my career,” Vince said. He expressed his gratitude to Hampshire for enabling him to take this action and for helping him throughout difficult circumstances.
Vince’s decision was also impacted by the PCB’s intention to move the PSL to an April–May schedule in order to make room for the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy. Many players find it difficult to participate as a result of this change, which aligns the PSL with England’s domestic season.
Vince has played 216 first-class matches over his storied career, amassing 13,340 runs at an average of 40.18, with 30 hundreds and 58 fifties. In addition, he has played in 17 T20Is, 25 ODIs, and 13 Test matches for England; with his last international match in 2023 against Bangladesh.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Tom Kohler-Cadmore, an English batter who was selected in the platinum category by Peshawar Zalmi at the PSL 10 selection, may potentially give the PSL precedence over the County Championship.
