The actions taken by PCB to protect Pakistan’s interests in international cricket are evident in these developments.
At a Governing Board meeting yesterday in Islamabad, which was presided over by Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provided important information. The attendees received an update on the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy project, emphasizing noteworthy advancements.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reportedly stated that just paperwork remains after agreements with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) were reached. In the next one to two days, the Champions Trophy schedule should be revealed.
The chairman revealed that India had offered to pay Pakistan money if their team chose not to travel to Pakistan. The PCB, however, turned down this offer, prioritizing pride in the country over financial benefit. Pakistan offered a different approach instead, guaranteeing that teams from both countries would not travel to one another’s countries for ICC events for the following three years.
The PCB has been granted the right to hold a women’s tournament in 2028 as part of this agreement. The ICC promised the PCB that there would be chances to host events in Pakistan in the future after worries were expressed regarding the absence of major tournaments in the country for the following three years. It is anticipated that this pledge will make up for any potential losses brought on by India’s exclusion from the Champions Trophy.
The board was also told that, without approving the larger three-year agreement, ICC might only disclose the Champions Trophy schedule for the time being. An official announcement about the extended partnership is still possible, though.
During the conference, it was also revealed that Pakistan presented the ICC with a stern stance, threatening severe action if its demands were not fulfilled. There was no more explanation of these possible courses of action.
The changes are a result of PCB’s proactive measures to protect Pakistan’s interests in international cricket while making sure the Champions Trophy is run smoothly.
