In the midst of the conflict, PCB agreed to accept the Champions Trophy hybrid model, which would see Pakistan host the remaining matches while India play its matches in Dubai.
Amid the ongoing dispute over Pakistan’s hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is anticipated to make a decision on Wednesday on the big tournament for the following year. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is responsible for hosting the Champions Trophy, reportedly asked the international organization for a written guarantee regarding the hybrid model for future ICC tournaments after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) notified ICC that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan in line with Government of India policy.
According to an IANS report, PCB has agreed to accept the Champions Trophy hybrid model, which will see Pakistan host the remaining matches and India play its matches in Dubai. India will also play in the semifinals and finals in Dubai, provided they qualify.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has to provide the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with a written guarantee that India will host future international competitions using a hybrid model. “The Champions Trophy decision is probably going to be made by Wednesday,” sources informed IANS.
Meanwhile, the Emirates Cricket Board is keeping a close eye on the ICC’s Champions Trophy decision. Sources claim that holding India’s games in Dubai is virtually a certain. Before reaching a conclusion on the matter, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday. Sharif has often said that before sanctioning any settlement, the PCB will consult with the government.
.The 2025 Champions Trophy will take place from February 19 to March 9. But since the BCCI claimed that it did not have Indian government approval to travel to Pakistan to play its matches, it has faced challenges. The competition will include eight teams, four of which will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, which will be followed by the final match.
Last year, Pakistan hosted the Men’s 50-over Asia Cup under a hybrid format after India refused to travel to Pakistan. Colombo hosted all of India’s tournament matches, including the semifinals and finals.
