Lahore Qalandars gained six points from as many games as they lost, moving them up to second position on the points table.

In the ongoing PSL 10, Lahore Qalandars defeated the bottom-placed Multan Sultans by five wickets on Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium thanks to a game-winning performance by Daryl Mitchell.

The Qalandars earned their third victory of the season by reaching the finish line with one over remaining after chasing a challenging target of 186.

Lahore got off to a rough start as opener Mohammad Naeem was dismissed by Josh Little before 12 runs had been scored. Following the powerplay, Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique added 33 runs before Fakhar was removed by Mohammad Hasnain. Fakhar hit three fours and two sixes in his impressive 28 off 22 balls.

Shafique and Daryl Mitchell put together a 49-run partnership as they proceeded to extend the innings. But Qalandars reached 95/4 in 12 overs as Ubaid Shah of Multan hit twice in a single over, dismissing Shafique for 34 and Sam Billings for a duck.

Mitchell and Sikandar Raza took over from there. In a spectacular counterattack, the two added 89 runs for the fifth wicket. Before being removed in the 19th over, Mitchell scored a stylish 64 runs off 38 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes.

Raza led Lahore to victory with two fours and four sixes while remaining unbeaten at 40 off just 21 balls.

With two wickets, Ubaid Shah was the most productive bowler for Multan. Josh Little, Akif Javed, and Hasnain each took one wicket.

Multan Sultans were put to bat earlier and scored 185/3. The 115-run unbroken combination between Kamran Ghulam and captain Muhammad Rizwan propelled their innings.

Yasir Khan’s 24 from 18 balls provided the side a head start, but the middle overs were tight thanks to the bowlers from Qalandars. With six boundaries and three sixes in an undefeated 76 off 48 deliveries, Rizwan served as the innings’ mainstay. With 52* off 31, hitting two fours and four sixes, Ghulam provided strong support.

Haris Rauf, Tom Curran, and Daryl Mitchell all took wickets for Lahore.

While the Sultans are still struggling at the bottom of the table, Qalandars took a step closer to playoff contention with this victory.
