Shahid Afridi has confirmed that Saim Ayub will miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because of his fractured ankle
Young batsman Saim Ayub will miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because of an injured ankle, according to former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi.
Saim was initially sidelined for six weeks after suffering the injury on the first day of the Cape Town Test match against South Africa. He is currently receiving treatment and a thorough assessment of his condition in London.
Regarding Saim’s recuperation, Afridi revealed that he recently counseled the young batsman against making a hasty comeback to cricket.
When asked in an interview,
“I spoke to Saim Ayub last nigh,” Afridi said. Before beginning rehabilitation, he said that he needs three weeks. I told him to take his time in getting better because even slight injuries can cause long-term problems if they are not completely healed. It’s best to fully recuperate because you’re young and have a bright future,” he added.
Before announcing the final Champions Trophy squad, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keeping a tight eye on Saim’s recovery. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, has promised his entire support for Saim’s treatment, despite his earlier hope that the gifted batter will recover in time.
“Saim Ayub is a valuable asset for Pakistan cricket,” Naqvi said. “We are giving him the greatest resources and medical attention available. I shall keep a careful eye on his progress and I am praying for a speedy recovery,” he added.
After 29 years, Pakistan will host an ICC event again with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to start on February 19, 2025.
