Shan Masood, the captain of Pakistan, has stated his intention to defeat the West Indies 2-0 in the forthcoming two-match ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series.
Shan Masood, who has captained Pakistan in ten Test matches, discussed his plans. After nearly defeating South Africa in the opening Test match at Centurion, the left-handed batter expressed his deep disappointment.
But this isn’t the first time this has happened to us,” he added. Our team has also lost games against Bangladesh and Australia despite being in excellent positions.
Masood said that Pakistan could have set South Africa a big target for victory if the middle order had put up more of a fight during the 205-run opening stand with Babar Azam in the second innings of the Cape Town Test.
He emphasized the value of looking ahead at all times. “Now, we will come up with a strategy involving spinners against the West Indies on home soil,” he added. The captain said that Pakistan would once more depend on spinners in Multan after the victory over England. “We hope to continue the winning momentum from the England series,” he added.
Series schedule:
The 35-year-old, who has amassed 2,300 runs and six hundreds in 76 innings of 40 Test matches for Pakistan, said he is confident the national team would win the forthcoming series against the West Indies 2-0.
Abdur Rehman, a former Test spinner, has been hired by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to assist with the national men’s team’s spin bowling.
This series will mark Rehman’s first assignment in this role. The 44-year-old, who has taken 140 international wickets across all formats for Pakistan between 2006 and 2014, has joined the national squad in Multan, which features three spinners: Abrar Ahmed, Sajid Khan, and Noman Ali.
Prior to this, Abdur Rehman was a member of the Pakistan women’s cricket team’s coaching staff. He will be coaching spin bowling for the national men’s squad for the first time.
In a bid to take full advantage of the home conditions, the team management plans to prepare pitches that favor spin. To ensure ideal pitch conditions, chief curator Tony Hemming has introduced the innovative “greenhouse concept.” This technique involves fully covering the pitch with heaters placed beneath the covers, keeping the pitch dry and warm despite the foggy weather in Multan. The objective is to create consistent playing surfaces that favor spinners, making the most of the dry and firm conditions.
