Dayyaan Galiem, an uncapped seamer, has been called up to play the rest of the T20I series in Nortje’s place.
After scans revealed a fracture in his left foot’s big toe, South African pacer Anrich Nortje has been forced to miss the current Twenty20 International series against Pakistan. Originally thought to be a minor contusion, the injury will now need to be evaluated by an orthopedic specialist in order to establish how long he will need to recuperate.
Dayyaan Galiem, an uncapped seamer, has been called up to play in Nortje’s place for the series’ final two games on Friday and Saturday.
Given that he was anticipated to play in forthcoming ODIs against Pakistan and possibly help with Champions Trophy preparations the following year, Nortje’s absence is a major setback for South Africa. Despite this setback, he is anticipated to recover his match fitness prior to the competition. He will play for the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, which begins in January.
In the last 15 months, this is Nortje’s second injury setback. Prior to making a spectacular return at the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup, where he was South Africa’s top wicket-taker, he lost nine months owing to a stress fracture.
With Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, and Wiaan Mulder all recuperating from various ailments, South Africa’s bowling lineup has been beset by injuries.
