Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, has backed Pakistan to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, citing their home conditions advantage.

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates will host the competition, which is set for February 19–March 9, 2025. Gavaskar stated that Pakistan will benefit from this and emphasized the difficulty of defeating a team in their home conditions.

In an interview, Gavaskar said, “The home team, Pakistan, should be given the tag of favorites because it’s difficult to beat any team in their home conditions.”

Despite losing in the final, he also cited India’s impressive performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they advanced to the final after winning ten straight games.

Eight teams will compete in the Champions Trophy, split into two groups.Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh make up Group A, while Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia make up Group B.

Three venues in Pakistan—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—as well as one in Dubai will host the tournament’s fifteen matches.

Pakistan will play New Zealand in the first game on February 19 in Karachi. The high-stakes encounter between India and Pakistan, scheduled for February 23 in Dubai, is much anticipated by cricket enthusiasts.

All seven participating teams, with the exception of the hosts, have already revealed their rosters; India is the most recent to do so.
