A report claims that Kohli has been given an injection to cure a neck sprain.

Prior to his possible comeback to domestic cricket, Virat Kohli, one of India’s cricketing mainstays, has apparently suffered a serious setback. It has been reported that the 36-year-old batter needed to have an injection to treat a sprained neck.

With the Champions Trophy less than a month away and the Ranji Trophy scheduled to resume on January 23, this injury comes at a crucial moment and raises questions about Kohli’s fitness to compete in both competitions.

According to a Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) source,

“Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same,”

Before Delhi’s match against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy on January 23, Kohli is anticipated to join the team and possibly even take part in training sessions, according to the report. His availability for the Ranji Trophy match has not been formally confirmed, yet.

“There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two remaining Ranji Trophy games, and a clearer picture could emerge once the DDCA selectors receive an update,”  the report claimed.

Delhi will play Saurashtra on January 23 and Railways on January 30 in their final two Ranji Trophy group-stage matches. Just before India’s ODI series against England starts on February 6, both games are expected to conclude. If his injury doesn’t become worse, Kohli should be included in the national team for the ODI series.

In order to avoid having to miss the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Kohli will be hopeful that the neck strain does not worsen.

Rishabh Pant, another outstanding player, has already stated that he will be available for Delhi’s match against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy.

Following India’s 1-3 Test series defeat to Australia, there is a renewed focus on domestic cricket. In response, among other things, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a 10-point guideline emphasizing the value of playing cricket domestically and restricting family presence on international tours.

The BCCI will definitely be keeping a careful eye on Kohli’s recuperation and possible return to the national and international scene.
