Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, turned down his request for a compensation increase, nevertheless.
According to additional sources, Gillespie refused to accept PCB’s request to stay in Pakistan for an extended period of time. White-ball coach Gary Kirsten allegedly voiced similar concerns and declined to remain in Pakistan outside of series obligations.
The PCB refused to allow Gillespie and Kirsten’s requested inclusion of their selected support staff. Gillespie is thought to have previously vowed to step down if his demands weren’t fulfilled.
Ahead of the Test series against South Africa, Gillespie formally submitted his resignation yesterday. Aaqib Javed has been named the PCB’s temporary red-ball head coach in his place.
Notably, Gary Kirsten resigned prior to Pakistan’s tour of Australia, making this the second significant coaching resignation in recent times.
In the upcoming weeks, further information regarding permanent coaching appointments is expected.
