Regulations set forth by the BCCI require that a new Secretary be appointed by January 15.
Following Jay Shah’s appointment as Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) operations have slowed down. The BCCI Secretary job is now unfilled due to this transfer, and no replacement has been named as of yet.
On December 1, Jay Shah formally assumed the role of ICC Chairman. The board’s functions are being delayed since no temporary secretary has been appointed to oversee day-to-day operations, according to Indian media. Overseeing regular matters is a critical function of the BCCI Secretary, and the lack of a replacement has caused interruptions.
There have reportedly been difficulties in the hunt for Jay Shah’s replacement. Currently, two applicants are being considered for the role:
- Devajit Saikia, the BCCI Joint Secretary, and
- Anil Patel, affiliated with the Gujarat Cricket Association.
A new Secretary must be chosen by January 15 in accordance with BCCI regulation. Until then, the absence of an authorized signatory for crucial activities continues to impede the board’s ability to function.
